Lucky 8 challenge!

Summer is well and truly over, winter is definitely on it’s way and that can only mean one thing for the Aquamarato Team …… adventure time!

And what an adventure we are planning – 8 marathons in 8 days in 8 countries. We wanted to find something that would really push us to the limits, inspire our followers, provide fantastic material for runners everywhere, yet was still just about technically possible. We’re going to need some luck with weather and traffic but we are going to give it everything and are confident that by the end of November a new record will have been established.

So what is the itinerary? We’re going to start in Berlin and then motor down the same evening to Prague ready for a marathon the next morning before moving on t Vienna. We know Vienna well from our exploits running an ultra there last year as part of our 12 marathon, 12 country challenge (wow doesn’t that sound a breeze compared to this madcap idea!).

With the two longest drives over it’s a short hop to Bratislava and marathon number 4 before another dash across the border to Budapest – I’m really looking forward to this one although there won’t be much time to take in the beautiful sights of this historic city, as it’s across another border to Zagreb. We’re on the home straight now as we enter Slovenia, our seventh country in seven days and another marathon in its capital, Ljubljana. Finally it’s bella Italia and Venice for our last marathon and a well earned rest.

It’s all going to be done in our usual haphazard style which got us though our 12 marathon odyssey last year – so all self-supported marathons, minimal planning with google maps and definitely a non-functioning sat nav!

You can follow our “planning” preparations here and on our twitter account @aquamarato and of course you can sign up here too for regular updates.

Keep in touch it’s going to be a blast!
